Daily Scripture: Day 145—Psalm 19

From Handbook to Scripture, Day 145

READING: PSALM 19

This psalm begins with a poetic description of God’s general revelation in the world of nature (verses 1–6). Although we do not hear the sun and the stars, they speak with eloquence about the greatness and glory of God. The second part of the psalm is a hymn extolling the riches of the Lord’s special revelation through His Word (verses 7–10). Six facets of the diamond of the Torah (law, testimony, precepts, commandment, fear, and judgments) refract the dazzling light of God’s goodness and grace. The psalm concludes with a personal response to God’s revelation in the world and the Word (verses 11–14). David expresses his intention to follow the way of God in his actions and attitudes.

Prayer: Lord, I marvel at Your greatness, glory, goodness, and grace. Your revelation in creation and in Your Word reveals Your glorious attributes and invites me to respond to Your loving overtures.

Meditation passage: verses 1, 7–11
