At the end of his life, Joshua gave a farewell speech to the people of Israel, exhorting them to remember God’s faithfulness in order to trust and obey Him.
The story of Joshua and the battle of Jericho demonstrates that victory ultimately belongs to God. Even when we do not understand God, we must obey Him.
We do not have easy answers to the “why” of suffering, but we can trust in the God who created us. This suffering will pass; we were made for eternity.
How do we memorialize the works of God? Joshua 4 teaches us to set up ebenezers—physical reminders that help us recalibrate our lives and honor God.
God calls us to live doxologically in every aspect of our lives—even when we experience suffering. The book of God teaches us to find satisfaction in God no matter our circumstances, transforming our “why” of grumbling into one of gratitude.
God does not do the same thing twice in the same way. The book of Joshua teaches us that He calls us to obedience, not to reliance on presuppositions. This means that when He calls us to do something unexpected, we must submit to Him and trust Him.
Out of our joy, love, and gratitude in Christ, we are to love others. As we keep in step with the Spirit, recalibrating our lives to obey His voice, we will approach our relationships with love—including the marriage relationship.
How do you make the most of your time? Obedience to God and walking in the power of the Holy Spirit are key to the Christian life.
True leadership comes from following God—meditating on His Word to know and love Him more. The life of Joshua gives us an example of this leadership.
