Daily Encouragement Day 225 – Luke 15

This remarkable chapter presents three parables that illustrate the same theme.  The parables of the lost sheep, the lost coin, and the lost son are Jesus’ response to the criticism of the Pharisees and the scribes that He receives sinners and eats with them.  In each story, something valuable is lost, an effort is made to find it, and there is rejoicing and celebration when it is restored.  These stories point to the joy in heaven when one sinner repents and turns to God.  The parable of the prodigal son reveals an especially poignant description of God as a loving father who waits for his wayward child to return.  Seeing his son in the distance, he runs after him, embraces him, and kisses him.

Prayer:

Lord, when I was lost and dead in my trespasses and sins, You sought me and found me.  I treasure Your embrace and know that I am only at home when I am with You.
