Daily Encouragement Day 247 – Acts 8

Philip, another of the deacons selected in Acts 6, was led to proclaim Christ to the Samaritans who were viewed with disdain by the Jewish people.  Philip’s message was accompanied by attesting signs, and Simon the magician was attracted by these works of power.  The apostles in Jerusalem sent Peter and John to Samaria to confer the gift of the Holy Spirit upon these new believers, but when Simon sought to buy the authority to impart this gift, Peter rebuked him for his wicked intentions.

Philip was directed by an angel to go to a desert road where he encountered an Ethiopian court official who was reading the Messianic prophecy in Isaiah 53.  When Philip preached Jesus to him, he believed and was baptized.
