Daily Encouragement: Year 1, Day 85

From Handbook to Renewal

The Attributes of God

You, O Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness and truth. (Psalm 86:15)

Great are the works of the Lord; they are pondered by all who delight in them. Splendid and majestic is His work, and His righteousness endures forever. He has caused His wonderful acts to be remembered; the Lord is gracious and compassionate. (Psalm 111:2–4)

The Works of God

My attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to death, even death on a cross. (Philippians 2:5–8)

Christ had to be made like His brothers in every way, in order that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. Because He Himself suffered when He was tempted, He is able to help those who are being tempted. (Hebrews 2:17–18)

My Relationship to God

All of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death. I was therefore buried with Him through baptism into death, in order that just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so I too may walk in newness of life. (Romans 6:3–4)

If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old things passed away; behold, they have become new. (2 Corinthians 5:17)

The Character I Want to Cultivate

I will let the fear of the Lord be upon me, and I will be careful in what I do, for with the Lord my God there is no injustice or partiality or bribery. (2 Chronicles 19:7)

He who is faithful with very little is also faithful with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. If one is not faithful in handling worldly wealth, who will trust him with true riches? And if one is not faithful with someone else’s property, who will give him property of his own? (Luke 16:10–12)

My Relationship to Others

We are the fragrance of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing; to the one an aroma from death to death; to the other, an aroma from life to life. And who is sufficient for these things? (2 Corinthians 2:15–16)

I pray that the sharing of my faith may become effective through the knowledge of every good thing which is in me for Christ’s sake. (Philemon 6)
