Daily Scripture: Day 120—Ezra 6

From Handbook to Scripture, Day 120

READING: EZRA 6

King Darius responded to the letter sent by the opponents of the temple construction by ordering that a search be made in the archives for the alleged decree of Cyrus that the Jews build their temple. Providentially, a scroll was found that contained this decree, and this led Darius to command that the very people who opposed the temple construction assist in providing the means for its completion. Thus encouraged by this decree and the prophetic ministry of Haggai and Zechariah, the children of Israel completed their temple in 516 BC. They joyfully celebrated the dedication of the temple and later celebrated the Passover at the new house of God in Jerusalem.

Prayer: Lord, You use even Your opponents to accomplish Your good pleasure. I thank You that You provide for Your people through unexpected means and that we can confidently look to You rather than fear opposition.

Meditation passage: verses 10, 16, 22
