Daily Scripture: Day 125—Nehemiah 6

From Handbook to Scripture, Day 125

READING: NEHEMIAH 6

As the work on the walls continued to progress, the enemies of the Jews continued to conspire to keep Jerusalem from being fortified. Sanballat, Tobiah, Geshem, and others sought to trick Nehemiah into leaving the work to meet with them so they could do him harm. Nehemiah wisely ignored their multiple messages, and he denied their false charges that he was fortifying the city to set himself up as king. Their next ploy was more subtle, since they hired Shemaiah to pose as a prophet of the Lord to get Nehemiah to hide himself in the temple. Nehemiah strengthened himself in the Lord and refused to succumb to intimidation. The walls were completed in only 52 days, an evidence that the hand of God was upon them.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for the reminder that I too am engaged in a spiritual warfare between the forces of good and evil, and that I must be ever vigilant and dependent upon You. I will sanctify Christ as Lord in my heart and not be intimidated or fearful.

Meditation passage: verse 16
