Daily Scripture: Day 161—Proverbs 6

From Handbook to Scripture, Day 161

READING: PROVERBS 6

Proverbs 6 is a little collection of practical counsel in various areas of life. It warns us against financial commitments that can ensnare us down the road and of the folly of risking more money than we can afford to lose. It warns us about the trap of slothfulness and self-indulgence, and it counsels us to avoid those who stir up slander, strife, and discord among people. It also exhorts us to avoid the devastating consequences of immorality and adultery. All these instructions are designed to get us to think before we act. Those who sin in haste will unfortunately have plenty of time for sorrow and repentance.

Prayer: Lord, may I carefully listen to these words of strong counsel concerning money, sloth, self-indulgence, slander, discord, pride, deceitfulness, and immorality.

Meditation passage: verses 20–23
