READING: Romans 13
The salvation described in the first eleven chapters of Romans should transform a believer’s life in relation to God (12:1–2), ministry to the Body of Christ (12:3–8), social relationships (12:9–21), submission to governing authorities (13:1–7), and the needs of others (13:8–15:13).
Paul argues that, in spite of their flaws, governing authorities are established by God, who raises them up and deposes them. It is only when a government overreaches its divinely-given sphere of authority that followers of Jesus can stand in opposition. Romans 13 concludes with an affirmation that love is the fulfillment of the law, and with an exhortation to live in view of the future by putting on the armor of light.
Prayer
Lord, may I lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. I want to put on the Lord Jesus Christ and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts.
