Daily Scripture: Day 288—2 Corinthians 9

From Handbook to Scripture, Day 288

Having mentioned the example of the Macedonians’ liberal giving for the needy brethren in Jerusalem (8:1–6), Paul appealed to the Corinthians to keep their promise by doing the same (8:7–9:15). In this connection, Paul commends the messengers he has sent to Corinth to make arrangements for the large gift they have promised. The apostle assures them that their generosity will be more than amply rewarded by God.

Paul urges his readers not only to be bountiful in their giving, but to give out of a cheerful heart rather than a grudging heart. In the same way, God is able to make all grace abound to them, and to make them sufficient in everything.

Prayer: Lord, You are able to make all grace abound to me, so that always having all sufficiency in everything, I may have an abundance for every good deed. Thanks be to You for Your indescribable gift!
