Daily Scripture: Day 302—Colossians 1

From Handbook to Scripture

READING: Colossians 1

Colossians may be the most Christ-centered book in Scripture—everything in it lifts the mind and heart to “the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God” (3:1). This epistle edifies the mind as it portrays the supremacy and person of Christ, and it edifies the heart as it encourages us to pursue Him in our conduct and character.

After a brief greeting, Paul thanks God for the Colossians (1:3–8) and prays that they would come to a deeper knowledge and growth in Christ (1:9–14). He develops his theme of the supremacy of Jesus Christ by demonstrating Christ’s preeminence in the realms of creation (1:15–18) and redemption (1:19–2:3).

Prayer

Lord, may I be filled with the knowledge of Your will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that I will walk in a manner worthy of You, to please You in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in knowledge of You.
