Daily Scripture: Day 39—Exodus 14

From Handbook to Scripture

To their horror, the children of Israel discovered in the wilderness that Pharaoh had changed his mind and was pursuing them with his chariots and army. When they cried out in despair, Moses told them to stand still and see the salvation of the Lord. The angel of God went behind them and the pillar of cloud became a barrier of protection between them and the Egyptian army. Throughout the night, the miracle of the parting of the waters made it possible for the children of Israel to cross the sea on dry ground, and the next morning the Lord closed the waters on the pursuing Egyptians and overthrew them. Thus, the Lord delivered His people through blood (the Passover) and through water (the Exodus).

Lord, You are the God of surprises. Just when it appears that all is lost, You do a new thing and deliver Your people through creative acts. May I learn to know not only Your works, but also Your ways.
