Daily Scripture: Day 43

From Handbook to Scripture

READING: LEVITICUS 16

The book of Leviticus was revealed at the foot of Mount Sinai as the Lord instructed His people in the ways of holiness. The moral, civil, and ceremonial laws were designed to provide order, stability, justice, and righteousness in the theocratic covenant community of Israel so that they would be set apart from all other nations. Those who have been redeemed must also be sanctified, and the central provision for sanctification in Israel was the sacrificial system with the priesthood and the tabernacle. The holiest day of the year was Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, during which the consecrated high priest would enter the Holy Place with the blood of a goat as a sin offering for the people.

Prayer: Lord, no one can approach Your holiness apart from the shedding of blood for the remission of sin. I thank You that I can boldly come to Your throne of grace through the shed blood of Your righteous Son, Jesus Christ.
