Daily Scripture: Day 63—Joshua 4

From Handbook to Scripture, Day 63

READING: JOSHUA 4

The Lord instructed Joshua to memorialize the miraculous crossing of the Jordan River on dry ground by appointing representatives from each of the 12 tribes to carry a stone from the midst of the Jordan riverbed to Gilgal beyond the western shore. In this way, the stones would be a sign to the generations to follow. In addition, Joshua had the people set up 12 stones in the midst of the Jordan before the waters returned. When the priests came up from the riverbed, the waters of the Jordan returned and once again overflowed the banks. Thus, Joshua’s authority was permanently established among the people.

Prayer: Lord, I thank You that You have demonstrated that Your hand is mighty and that we should fear You forever. You have accomplished great things for Your people, and all Your ways are righteous and true.

Meditation passage: verses 14, 24
