Daily Scripture: Day 70—Judges 14

From Handbook to Scripture

READING: JUDGES 14

As the visit of the Angel of the Lord to Manoah and his wife in Judges 13 makes clear, Samson was set apart to the Lord before he was conceived. It was through this remarkable figure that the Lord began to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistines. Samson’s penchant for foreign women provided an occasion to move against the Philistines. In this chapter, the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon Samson when he was attacked by a lion and when he went down to Ashkelon to kill 30 of the Philistines.

Prayer: Lord, You are able to accomplish Your purposes in spite of human shortcomings. Though Samson was physically powerful, he was frail in character, and it was only in the power of Your Spirit that he prevailed.

Meditation passage: verse 4
