Daily Scripture: Day 71—Judges 15

From Handbook to Scripture

READING: JUDGES 15

In his anger in losing his Philistine wife, Samson wreaked havoc by releasing 300 foxes with torches tied between their tails in the grain fields, vineyards, and olive groves of the Philistines. When they responded by burning Samson’s former wife and father-in-law, Samson slaughtered many of the Philistines. Samson allowed his fearful Israelite countrymen to tie him with new ropes and deliver him into the hands of the Philistines, but the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon him, so that he killed a thousand of them with the jawbone of a donkey.

Prayer: Lord, You fulfill Your plans through varied and unexpected means. The very strangeness of this account reminds me that Your ways among the sons of men are surprising and unpredictable.

Meditation passage: verses 14, 19
