Daily Scripture: Day 79—1 Samuel 3

READING: 1 SAMUEL 3

“Now the boy Samuel was growing in stature and in favor both with the Lord and with men” (1 Samuel 2:26; cf. Luke 2:52). As a lad, Samuel ministered to the Lord before Eli, and on one significant night, he heard the voice of the Lord. Thinking Eli had called him, he ran to Eli who sent him back. After this happened three times, Eli realized that the voice was that of the Lord and told Samuel to say, “Speak, Lord, for Your servant is listening.” The Lord gave Samuel a message of judgment for Eli, and Samuel reluctantly relayed this prophetic message of condemnation.

Prayer: Lord, I acknowledge Your holiness and my need to treat You as holy and not besmirch Your name in the sight of others by allowing sin to reign in my life.

Meditation passage: verse 19
