From Handbook to Scripture, Day 81
READING: 1 SAMUEL 9
The Lord had already selected the man whom Samuel would anoint as Israel’s first king. Saul was a handsome, tall, and imposing figure who had all the appearance and potential of an impressive ruler. God used the incident of Kish’s lost donkeys as a means of drawing Saul to seek out Samuel the seer. Before Saul arrived, the Lord told Samuel that He was sending him the man he was to anoint as ruler over the people. Samuel sat Saul in the place of honor at the feast and later talked with him to prepare him to hear the word of God for him.
Prayer: Lord, what appears to me to be happenstance can be Your divine arrangements for new directions of which I have no knowledge. Let me be sensitive and responsive to Your guidance so that I will not miss what You have for me.
