Daily Scripture: Day 89—2 Samuel 12

Months passed and Bathsheba bore David a son. By this time, the king must have supposed that he had avoided the potential consequences of his sins against Bathsheba and her husband Uriah. But the Lord sent Nathan the prophet, who related a parable that incited the king and exposed the extent of his hidden guilt. When he realized that the parable was actually about him, David repented (see Psalm 51) and acknowledged his sin against the Lord. Nathan told him that the consequences for his sin would be the loss of the child borne out of adultery as well as division in his own household. But the Lord in His grace comforted Bathsheba with another son, the great Solomon who would carry on the Davidic dynasty.
Prayer: Lord, in Your grace and mercy, You are quick to forgive, but I pray that I will not presume on Your grace, supposing that I can get away with the consequences of folly. I know that You discipline those whom You love so that we will be partakers of Your holiness.
