Daily Scripture: Day 98—1 Kings 17

From Handbook to Scripture, Day 98

READING: 1 KINGS 17

In the days of Ahab, ruler of the northern kingdom of Israel, the Lord raised up the prophet Elijah to announce a drought because of Ahab’s sin in bringing Baal worship to Israel through the influence of his wife Jezebel. The Lord provided for Elijah while he was in hiding by the brook Cherith, and then in the house of the widow Zarephath. The Lord miraculously replenished her flour and oil during the days of the drought, and revived her dead son through Elijah’s prayers. With the restoration of her son, Zarephath knew that Elijah was a man of God who spoke the true word of the Lord.

Prayer: Lord, You provide for Your people in the worst of circumstances and concern Yourself with the details of our lives. May I trust You more and lean on You during times of trial and adversity.

Meditation passage: verse 24
