Think about how a tree grows. As the root goes down deeper into the ground, it bears fruit upward. This analogy helps us understand ourselves and our spiritual lives. After all, much of our growth occurs in the inner self, out of sight of everyone but God. Those around us only see the exterior, but what is most important is what is interior. When we give our lives to Christ, He changes us, redeeming us. He has declared us righteous. Although we still struggle with sin in our being because we are on this earth, we will begin bearing fruit out of who Christ has declared us to be.
