The 52 Greatest Stories of the Bible (Story #43): The Room Upstairs

This entry is part 44 of 47 in the series 52 Greatest Stories of the Bible

In the upper room discourse (John 13–17), John records several instances where Jesus promises the coming of the Comforter. This was the One who would guide the disciples in truth. He would also bring to remembrance all that Jesus had taught the disciples. A few days after the ascension of Jesus, the disciples found themselves in another room. Jesus’ promise was fulfilled. What sounded like a rush of wind that filled the whole house. Tongues of flame set themselves on each of them. And in an instant they were able to speak in other languages. The Holy Spirit had come.
