Daily Encouragement Day 108 – 2 Kings 18

After the death of the ungodly King Ahaz of Judah, his son Hezekiah assumed the throne and provided a window of righteous rule in the southern kingdom until Hezekiah’s wicked son Manasseh succeeded him.  King Hezekiah zealously removed the high places and objects of pagan worship and walked in the ways of the Lord God of Israel.  It was in 722 B.C. during the reign of Hezekiah that the Assyrian King Shalmaneser finally overthrew the northern kingdom of Israel and scattered the people.  After Hezekiah rebelled against the Assyrians, the Assyrian King Sennacherib sent forces to invade Judah, and Hezekiah relented by paying tribute.  However, the Assyrians invaded Judah a second time and taunted Hezekiah for trusting in the God of Israel.

Lord, I know that there is no guarantee that righteousness will eliminate opposition and adversity in this life.  Your enemies are ever active, but Yours is the power, majesty, glory, and victory, and I will put my trust and hope in You.
