Daily Encouragement Day 122 – Nehemiah 2

Nehemiah served as the cupbearer to Artaxerxes king of Persia (464-423 B.C.), and it was in the twentieth year of Artaxerxes (444 B.C.) that Nehemiah heard the disturbing news that the walls of Jerusalem had been reduced to a rubble.  His sorrow was evident to the king, and when Artaxerxes heard the cause of Nehemiah’s concern, he invited him to make his request.  Nehemiah was not caught unprepared, and presented a clear plan of action to the king.  He journeyed to Jerusalem with men and provisions, inspected the walls of the city, and encouraged its inhabitants to begin the good work of rebuilding.  Nehemiah also refuted the accusations of the enemies of the children of Israel.
