Daily Encouragement Day 269 – Romans 7

The apostle argues that the only way we can be released from the jurisdiction of the law is to die, and that our death in Christ to that by which we were bound enables us to “serve in newness of the Spirit and not in oldness of the letter.”  He goes on to say that the Mosaic Law was given in order to reveal the problem of indwelling sin and our condition of separation from the holiness of God.

In 7:14-25 Paul speaks of the conflict that believers in Christ experience between the “inner man” (the new nature we have received in Christ) and the “flesh” or “the law of sin which is in my members.”  This inward/outward conflict between the new and the old dispositions will not be eliminated until we are in our resurrected bodies.

READING of ROMANS 7

Prayer:

Lord, I joyfully concur with the law of God in my inner being in Christ, but I see a different law in the members of my body.  May I walk in union with Christ and in the power of Your Spirit.
