Daily Encouragement Day 303: Colossians 2

Having presented the preeminence of Christ in creation and redemption, Paul goes on to refute the false teachings of those who were promoting deceptive philosophy, legalistic regulations, misguided mysticism, and vain asceticism (2:4-23).

Paul wrote this Christ-centered epistle to combat the erroneous teachings that were beginning to take hold in Colossae, knowing that the best way to refute error is to focus on a clear presentation of the truth.  He argues that Christ alone is sufficient for all things, and that the ascetic regulations, hidden knowledge, and mystical visions that were being promoted by the false teachers in Colossae were not only inadequate, but heretical.  Christ holds all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge (2:3), and it is unnecessary to turn to spurious sources to find what He alone can offer.

Prayer:

Lord, all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in Christ, and in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form.  Just as I have received Him by faith, so may I walk in Him.
