Daily Encouragement Day 364 – Revelation 21

A new heaven and earth is created, this time unspoiled by sin, death, pain, or sorrow.  The New Jerusalem (described in 21:9-22:5), is shaped like a gigantic cube, fifteen hundred miles in length, width, and height (the most holy place in the Old Testament tabernacle and temple was also a perfect cube).  Its multicolored stones will reflect the glory of God, and it will continually be filled with light.  But the greatest thing of all is that believers will be in the presence of God, and “they will see His face” (22:4).

The Apocalypse has been given an appropriate place as the last book in the canon of Scripture because it ties the themes of the Bible together.  In a very real sense, chapters 21-22 are the new Genesis, but without the fall.  In broadest terms, the Bible conveys the metanarrative of God’s work in creation, redemption, and re-creation, and this story centers on the incarnation of the God-man.

Prayer:

Lord, in the new heaven and new earth, You will dwell among us, and we will be Your people.  And You will wipe away every tear from our eyes, and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things will pass away.
