Daily Encouragement Day 84 – 1 Samuel 16

Now that Saul had disqualified himself as God’s anointed ruler over the people of Israel, the Lord instructed Samuel to go and anoint the man who would replace him as king.  When Samuel was sent to Bethlehem to determine which of Jesse’s sons God had selected to replace Saul as king, he looked at Eliab and assumed that he must be the Lord’s anointed.  But God told Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”  It was David, Jesse’s youngest son, who was destined for the throne, and David soon began to serve Saul.

READING of 1 SAMUEL 16

Prayer:

Lord, without You it is impossible for me to see things as they truly are.  Since I can only judge on the basis of outward appearance, I ask that You would guide my decisions and direction.
