Daily Encouragement Day 86 – 2 Samuel 5

After the death of King Saul, David was publicly anointed in Hebron as king over Judah and Benjamin.  The northern ten tribes of Israel, however, continued for seven years and six months to support the house of Saul, but the house of David continued to grow in strength.  With the death of Saul’s son Ishbosheth, the ten tribes of Israel gathered at Hebron and anointed David as king over all Israel.  David defeated the Jebusites and made Jerusalem his capital city.  He then decisively defeated Israel’s long-standing Philistine enemies by inquiring of the Lord and obediently carrying out God’s instructions.

Lord, Your servant David illustrates the fact that patient obedience and dependence on You is the pathway of life.  May I wait upon You, depend upon Your timing and strength, and obey all that You tell me to do.
