From Handbook to Wisdom, Day 189

PERSEVERE
IN TIMES OF TRIAL

I will consider it all joy whenever I fall
into various trials, knowing that the testing of
my faith produces endurance.
And I will let endurance finish its work, so that I may be
mature and complete, lacking in nothing.
(James 1:2–4)

Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial,
because when he has been approved,
he will receive the crown of life
that God has promised to those who love Him.
(James 1:12)

Dear God, though the trials and afflictions of life are painful, I can rejoice in what You seek to accomplish through them. You test and purge and refine me in the fires of adversity so that I will better reflect the image of Your Son. I pray for the grace and power to persevere so that I will grow in endurance and in maturity. Amen.
