From Handbook to Renewal
The Attributes of God
The Lord reigns forever; He has established His throne for judgment. He will judge the world in righteousness, and He will govern the peoples with justice. The Lord will also be a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. Those who know Your name will trust in You, for You, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek You. (Psalm 9:7–10)
The Lord is righteous in all His ways and gracious in all His works. (Psalm 145:17)
The Works of God
Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; He was buried, and He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures. (1 Corinthians 15:3–4)
Our Lord Jesus Christ gave Himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be glory for ever and ever. (Galatians 1:3–5)
My Relationship to God
My Father knows what I need before I ask Him. (Matthew 6:8)
The Spirit helps me in my weakness, for I do not know what I ought to pray for, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for me with groans that words cannot express. And He who searches the hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. (Romans 8:26–27)
The Character I Want to Cultivate
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have the gift of prophecy and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And if I give all my possessions to the poor, and if I deliver my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing. (1 Corinthians 13:1–3)
I want everything I do to be done in love. (1 Corinthians 16:14)
My Relationship to Others
Concerning the lost, Jesus said, “What man among you, if he has a hundred sheep and loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the one that is lost until he finds it? And when he finds it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he comes into his house, he calls his friends and neighbors together and says to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!’ I tell you that in the same way there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance. There is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” (Luke 15:4–7, 10)
From now on I will regard no one only according to the flesh. (2 Corinthians 5:16)
