From Handbook to Renewal
The Attributes of God
Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend to heaven, You are there; if I make my bed in Sheol, You are there. If I take the wings of the dawn, if I dwell in the furthest part of the sea, even there Your hand will lead me; Your right hand will lay hold of me. If I say, “Surely the darkness will cover me,” even the night will be light around me. The darkness is not dark to You, and the night shines as the day; darkness and light are alike to You. (Psalm 139:7–12)
You know me, O Lord; You see me and test my thoughts about You. (Jeremiah 12:3)
The Works of God
Surely the Lord’s hand is not too short to save, nor His ear too dull to hear. But our iniquities have separated us from our God; our sins have hidden His face from us, so that He will not hear. … Yet the Lord saw that there was no one to intervene; so His own arm worked salvation for Him, and His righteousness sustained Him. He put on righteousness as His breastplate, and the helmet of salvation on His head; He put on the garments of vengeance and wrapped Himself in zeal as a cloak. From the west, men will fear the name of the Lord, and from the rising of the sun, they will revere His glory. For He will come like a flood that the breath of the Lord drives along. (Isaiah 59:1–2, 16–19)
You led Your people with cords of human kindness, with bands of love; You lifted the yoke from their neck and bent down to feed them. (Hosea 11:4)
My Relationship to God
I will sing of Your strength, yes, I will sing of Your mercy in the morning, for You have been my stronghold, my refuge in times of trouble. To You, O my Strength, I will sing praises, for God is my fortress, my loving God. (Psalm 59:16–17)
Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits; who forgives all your iniquities and heals all your diseases; who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion; who satisfies your desires with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. (Psalm 103:2–5)
The Character I Want to Cultivate
I will have accurate and honest standards in my business practices. (Deuteronomy 25:15)
He who walks in integrity walks securely, but he who perverts his way will be found out. (Proverbs 10:9)
My Relationship to Others
He who oppresses the poor reproaches their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors Him. (Proverbs 14:31)
He who is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will reward him for what he has done. (Proverbs 19:17)
