Daily Prayer: Day 159

From Simple Prayers, Day 159

I DRAW NEAR TO YOU, GOD

Lord, You have invited me to pray for the needs of others, and since You desire what is best for them, I take this opportunity to bring these requests to You.

May I help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” (Acts 20:35)

May I learn to do good,
Seek justice,
Remove the oppressor,
Defend the orphan,
And plead for the widow. (Isaiah 1:17)

Take a moment to lift up the needs of your family and friends, and to offer up any other burdens for others that the Lord brings to mind.

THANK YOU FOR WHAT YOU HAVE DONE

Before You formed me in the womb, You knew me; before I was born, You set me apart. (Jeremiah 1:5)

Because Jesus lives forever, He has a permanent priesthood. Therefore He is also able to save completely those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to intercede for them. (Hebrews 7:24–25)

I LISTEN TO YOUR WORDS OF TRUTH

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters; He restores my soul. He guides me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. (Psalm 23:1–6)

MY RESPONSE TO YOU, LORD

I will obey those who are in authority over me in all things, not with external service as a pleaser of men, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord. Whatever I do, I will work at it with all my heart, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that I will receive the reward of the inheritance from the Lord. It is the Lord Christ I am serving. (Colossians 3:22–24)

I will provide my subordinates with what is just and fair, knowing that I also have a Master in heaven. (Colossians 4:1)

Lord, I thank You that You knew me before I was born and that Jesus saves and intercedes for me. I thank You that You guide and protect me as my shepherd, and I ask that I would be more concerned about pleasing You than impressing people.
