Daily Prayer: Year 1, Day 4

From A Simple Book of Prayers

Receiving Wisdom
(Petition)

As I approach Your throne of grace today, I am grateful that You care about the things that concern me and that You want me to offer them up to You.

May I be above reproach, temperate, sensible, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money, one who manages their own family well, and who keeps their children under control with proper respect. Grant me a good reputation with outsiders so that I will not fall into disgrace and the snare of the devil. (1 Timothy 3:2–4, 7)

Take a moment to share your personal needs with God, including your physical, emotional, relational, and spiritual concerns.

The Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding. He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk in integrity, guarding the paths of justice and protecting the way of His saints. Then I will understand righteousness and justice and honesty—every good path. (Proverbs 2:6–9)

Lord, I praise Your majesty and that You reached down in love to save us. I thank You that Your nearness is my good, and I ask that I would receive Your wisdom and reverence You above all else.
