Daily Scripture: Day 163—Proverbs 8

From Handbook to Scripture, Day 163

READING: PROVERBS 8

The beautiful personification of wisdom as a woman in chapter 8 is a portrait of the perfection of righteousness and morality (verses 8–9). This wisdom is divine (verses 22–31), and is the wellspring of all biological and spiritual life (3:18; 8:35–36). Proverbs stresses that wisdom is not limited to an elite class of people, but is accessible to all who are willing to seek it. As the New Testament teaches, Christ Jesus is the incarnation of wisdom: He “became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption” (1 Corinthians 1:30). In Christ “are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge” (Colossians 2:3).

Prayer: Lord, may I listen to Your instruction and be wise enough to respond to Your exhortations and find life by seeking Your favor. Let me love You and Your ways, and thus avoid the ways of death.
