Daily Scripture: Day 88—2 Samuel 11

David’s victories over his enemies made him vulnerable to the troubling question, “Where do I go from here?” The middle-aged king decided not to lead his men in battle against the Ammonites but to remain at the palace in Jerusalem while Joab led his men instead. In his weakened spiritual condition, he succumbed not only to the sin of adultery but also to the sin of murder so that he could claim Bathsheba for himself. By disposing of Uriah the Hittite, one of his 30 mighty men, David supposed that he could get away with his sin.
Prayer: Lord, I realize that the flesh is neither improved nor removed in this life, and that the one who thinks he stands should take heed lest he fall. By Your grace, let me cultivate a passion for Jesus so that I will not slip into despondency and succumb to temptation.
