Daily Scripture: Day 91—1 Kings 2

From Handbook to Scripture

READING: 1 KINGS 2

Just before his death, David exhorted Solomon to remain faithful and obedient to the Lord, and he also instructed his son to deal with those who had troubled him. Adonijah, Solomon’s older half-brother who had plotted to claim the throne, made a foolish request through Bathsheba that led to his execution. Solomon also removed Abiathar from the priesthood for his infidelity to David, and he executed Joab for defecting to Adonijah and for his earlier wickedness in murdering Abner and Amasa. Finally, Solomon restricted Shimei who had publicly cursed David and executed him when he violated the restriction. Thus, King Solomon firmly established his throne.

Prayer: Lord, these men reaped what they had sown and received justice for their acts of treachery. But I ask You to treat me with mercy and not justice, and to preserve me in the grace of Your pardon.
