Daily Scripture: Day 99—1 Kings 18

From Handbook to Scripture, Day 99

READING: 1 KINGS 18

When the Lord sent Elijah to Ahab to end the drought, Elijah encountered Obadiah and told him to announce his return to Ahab. Obadiah, a godly man who had protected and provided for 100 prophets in two caves when Jezebel massacred the prophets of the Lord, was afraid to tell Ahab until Elijah reassured him. Ahab went to meet with Elijah, who challenged his false prophets to a contest on Mount Carmel. Elijah’s dramatic single-handed victory over the 450 prophets of Baal and the 400 prophets of Asherah led to the people’s cry, “The Lord, He is God; the Lord, He is God.” Then Elijah prayed on the top of Carmel for the drought-breaking rain.

Prayer: Lord, I thank You for the boldness of Your servant Elijah and for this remarkable account of Your power on behalf of those whose lives are dedicated to You. May I grow in holy boldness and proclaim the truth of Your Son in word and deed.

Meditation passage: verses 21, 37
