From Handbook to Renewal
The Attributes of God
God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should change his mind. Has He spoken and not done it? Has He promised and not fulfilled it? (Numbers 23:19)
He who is the Glory of Israel does not lie or change His mind, for He is not a man, that He should change His mind. (1 Samuel 15:29)
The Works of God
One generation shall praise Your works to another, and shall declare Your mighty acts. I will meditate on the glorious splendor of Your majesty and on Your wonderful works. Men shall speak of the might of Your awesome works, and I will proclaim Your great deeds. (Psalm 145:4–6)
Who is a God like You, who pardons iniquity and passes over the transgression of the remnant of His inheritance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy. You will have compassion on Your people; You will tread their iniquities underfoot and hurl all their sins into the depths of the sea. (Micah 7:18–19)
My Relationship to God
God lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the Lord. (Psalm 40:2–3)
I shall know the truth, and the truth shall set me free. Everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin. And a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets me free, I shall be free indeed. (John 8:32, 34–36)
The Character I Want to Cultivate
I will not let love and truth leave me; I will bind them around my neck and write them on the tablet of my heart. (Proverbs 3:3)
Love is patient, love is kind, it does not envy; love does not boast, it is not arrogant, it does not behave rudely; it does not seek its own, it is not provoked, it keeps no record of wrongs; it does not rejoice in unrighteousness but rejoices with the truth; it bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails. (1 Corinthians 13:4–8)
My Relationship to Others
I will give generously to others without a grudging heart. (Deuteronomy 15:10)
I will not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in my power to act. (Proverbs 3:27)
