The more we love God and view ourselves as He views us, the more He empowers us to show our love for Him. We do this through acts of love and service to others. We know that the greatest commandment is to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength. The second greatest commandment follows on the first. It tells us to love others as we love ourselves (Matthew 22:37–39). Jesus builds on this after washing the feet of His disciples. He tells them “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another” (John 13:34). The sacrificial, unconditional love of Jesus is the kind of love we ought to have for others.
