What are your priorities in life?
All too often, our priorities center around what is temporal rather than what is eternal. We focus on our jobs, on our possessions, on our reputations, and we forget to have Christ at the center of our lives. Instead of living with eternity in mind, we are blinded by the things of this world.
The wisdom psalms teach us to focus on the ultimate rather than the fleeting, helping us treat things according to their true value.

Psalm 1 opens the book of Psalms by contrasting the way of the wicked with the way of the righteous. In the first verse, we see that following the path of wickedness is a progression: a person will first walk in the way of the wicked, then stand, then sit. Each action reveals a progression away from righteousness and a settlement into the way of wickedness.
The truly righteous person has deep roots, seeking after the Lord through His Word. No matter what comes his or her way, he or she will be able to stand firm and flourish.
This psalm is the gateway to the psalms because it shows the importance of our thought lives and our actions. Our habits shape us, and we need to take time to examine them. Ask yourself this question: What does your mind gravitate toward? Answering this honestly through the help of the Spirit will reveal what your heart truly desires.
Psalm 19 teaches us to consider both the world and the Word in order to worship and delight in our God. As we consider creation, we ought to be amazed at the Creator. Everything points to His glory, and if we take the time to look at His work, we will begin to meditate on who He is.
At the same time, general revelation only takes us so far. We also need God’s Word in order to know Him. He has chosen to reveal Himself through His Word, teaching us more about who He is and what He has done for us. Reading God’s Word has eternal benefit; it is His gift to us, and we ought to take advantage of the riches it contains.
Looking at God’s general and special revelation requires a response. This psalm calls us to live in such a way that we seek after eternal reward.
