365 Key Chapters of the Bible: Exodus 10

Who is going to sit on the throne? Pharaoh grapples for authority by refusing to release the Israelites, but ultimately it is God who sovereignly hardens Pharaoh’s heart that He might get glory. There is more at stake here than the Israelites’ freedom. This is a question of who is in control: Pharaoh or God. The plagues attack the authority of Pharaoh, going against the gods and goddesses of Egypt and revealing them to be powerless. Only the God of the Israelites has true power and authority. The plagues that He sends on Egypt make it clear that He is who He claims to be.
