RECKONING
We must not only learn the truth, but also count (consider or reckon) it to be so (Romans 6:11). God’s truth is not merely designed to inform us but also to transform us. We really have become new creatures; we are part of a new species with a new heredity and inheritance as children of God and citizens of heaven. We have been removed from death in Adam to life in Christ. Christ is not only alongside us or in front of us; He is in us, and He wants to express His life through us.
The daily reckoning that we are “dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus” brings us into a deeper understanding that Christ’s life is now our life and His destiny is now our destiny. We have exchanged the old for the new, and in Him we have love, meaning, and fulfillment.
