From A Simple Book of Prayers
Avoiding Presumption
(Renewal)
I praise You, Lord, that You are intimately acquainted with my ways and that You always love me and have my best interests at heart.
O Lord my God, may I fear You, walk in all Your ways, love You, and serve You with all my heart and with all my soul. (Deuteronomy 10:12)
I have not been made perfect, but I press on to lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus also laid hold of me. (Philippians 3:12)
Take a moment to offer this day to the Lord, and ask Him for the grace to grow in your knowledge and love for Him.
Instruct a wise person, and they will be wiser still; teach a righteous person, and they will increase in learning. (Proverbs 9:9)
I should not say, “Today or tomorrow I will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business, and make a profit.” For I do not even know what my life will be tomorrow. I am a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away. . . . all such boasting is evil. (James 4:13–16)
Lord, You rule in sovereign majesty and Your Son has authority to give eternal life. May I put my hope in Your unfailing love, and grow in wisdom, avoiding presumption.
