Question: Are there any resources/books on grief and mourning that you recommend?

Along with my upcoming book Shaped by Suffering: How Temporary Hardships Prepare Us for Our Eternal Home (IVP, 2019), I recommend this list of verses and resources on “Biblical Hope in Times of Loss.” Additionally, I commend the following four books, which offer a variety of insightful and biblically based approaches to grief:

  1. Where Is God When It Hurts? by Philip Yancey (view on Amazon)
  2. Tracks of a Fellow Struggler: Living and Growing Through Grief by John R. Claypool (view on Amazon)
  3. A Grace Disguised: How the Soul Grows Through Loss by Jerry Sittser (view on Amazon)
  4. A Grief Observed by C.S. Lewis (view on Amazon)
