Daily Encouragement: Day 148

From Handbook to Wisdom, Day 148 (Wisdom)

FLEE FROM THE LOVE OF MONEY

The one who loves money will not be satisfied with money;
nor he who loves abundance, with its increase.
(Ecclesiastes 5:10)

Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a snare
and into many foolish and harmful desires
that plunge people into ruin and destruction.
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil,
and some by longing for it have wandered from the faith
and pierced themselves with many sorrows.
But I will flee from these things, and pursue righteousness,
godliness, faith, love, patience, and gentleness.
(1 Timothy 6:9–11)

Lord God, I want to give my life in exchange for the things You declare to be important rather than the things that are passing away. Grant me the grace to turn away from the lure of worldly wealth, since I know that it will never satisfy my soul, but will draw me away from You. You are my true source of provision and security, and I will look to You and not to the world for these needs. Amen.
