From Handbook to Wisdom, Day 198
HOLD FAST TO GOD
IN AFFLICTION
Before I was afflicted I went astray,
but now I keep Your word.
It was good for me to be afflicted,
so that I might learn Your statutes.
(Psalm 119:67, 71)
I will not forget the exhortation that
addresses me as a son:
“My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline,
nor lose heart when you are rebuked by Him,
for those whom the Lord loves He disciplines,
and He chastises every son whom He receives.”
(Hebrews 12:5–6)
Father, the discipline and chastisement that comes from Your loving hand is always for my highest good. Because of Your sovereign care, rebukes and afflictions actually lead to clarity and understanding so that I will be refined and purified for Your purposes. I therefore submit to Your exhortation, Your timing, and Your intentions. Amen.
