Practicing the Presence of God: Part 18

Dr. Boa continues his discussion of Jesus’s spiritual practices and his invitation to us to practice God’s presence, just as he did on earth. Today’s lesson picks up in John 10.

Trusting God in Turbulent Times

Emotional, intellectual, and volitional obstacles can keep us from trusting and yielding to God, both for the first time and after we become followers of Christ. Trusting Him is especially challenging when life is difficult or doesn’t make sense from our perspective. But if we turn toward God, his Spirit in us will help us overcome these barriers, so that we’re able to trust Him at all times, no matter what’s going on around us.

Peter invites his readers to see that our outlook will determine the things we pursue and treasure and value.  And so we want to pursue the will of God and His promises.  We want to live a life that demands an explanation as an agent of light, grace and love; giving rather than expecting in return and entrusting ourselves to Him for the outcome.

1 Peter Study, Part 12 (at Christ Church): Spheres of Authority I

Dr. Boa addresses the practical application of the spheres of God ordained authority.  We are people under divinely ordained authority and we are called to a lifestyle of submission.  Dr. Boa encourages us to press on to the higher calling of God and to walk in obedience to the things He has called us to pursue.

1 Peter Study, Part 9 (at Christ Church): Embracing God’s Narrative

Peter invites his readers to embrace God’s narrative not the world’s narrative; to embrace a biblical perspective on life and not what we often would construe for ourselves.  This epistle gives a perspective of wisdom, faith, hope, and love and calls us to put our hope in the Living God and His unchanging character and promises.
