In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus offers a simple yet profound command that has echoed through the centuries: "In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets." (Matthew 7:12) This is known as the Golden Rule. At first glance, it may sound like good advice for…

In Matthew 7:7, Jesus gives us a compelling invitation: “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” At first glance, this might seem like a promise that anything we ask of God will be granted, so long as we persist. But a deeper reading reveals a more…

In the heart of the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus extends a profound and radical invitation: “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” These are not empty promises. They flow from the very nature of God—a good and generous Father who delights in giving what is…

Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 7:1–6, often quoted but rarely understood in context, offers a dual warning: against both self-righteous judgment and spiritual naïveté. At first glance, “Do not judge, or you too will be judged” (v. 1) seems to prohibit all moral evaluation. Yet Jesus is not condemning discernment; He is confronting hypocrisy. His goal is not silence in the…

As we enter Matthew chapter seven, Jesus turns from shaping the inner life to addressing how it expresses itself outwardly in relationships. In chapters five and six, He examined our motives, our pursuit of righteousness, and our trust in God’s provision. Now He turns our focus to the way we see and treat others. Jesus ends chapter six by urging…

In Matthew 7:1–5, Jesus says, “Do not judge so that you will not be judged.” This verse has become one of the most quoted—and most misapplied—texts in all of Scripture. Often misunderstood as a call to moral passivity or the suspension of discernment, Jesus' actual intent is far deeper. He is calling us not to a lack of judgment, but…

As we come to the end of Matthew 6, Jesus addresses a universal struggle—our preoccupations. What consumes your mind when you are at rest? For many, it is anxiety about daily needs: food, clothing, and the future. But if we live only at that level, we reduce ourselves to material creatures, forgetting that we are made in the image of…

In Matthew 6, Jesus calls us to a radically different way of thinking—a shift from the temporal to the eternal, from cultural norms to kingdom values. He doesn't simply offer moral advice; He challenges the very foundation of our lives. His contrasts—between treasures, masters, and preoccupations—are not rhetorical devices; they are invitations to reorient our hearts. The first contrast Jesus…

In Matthew 6, Jesus speaks directly to our hearts. He knows we all struggle with anxiety, fear, and misplaced ambition. So He invites us to think carefully about what we value, how we see the world, and whom we serve. His words are not just wise sayings—they are a call to live with eternal perspective, not temporary concerns. Jesus begins…

In Matthew 6:19–24, Jesus shifts from the practices of devotion—giving, praying, and fasting—to deeper matters of the heart. His words about treasure, vision, and loyalty remind us that our lives are always shaped by what we value, what we focus on, and whom we serve. Treasures on Earth and in Heaven Jesus begins with a contrast: “Do not store up…
