Peter talks about the surprising power and gift of grace that comes upon us which overcomes adversity and suffering. When we keep an eternal perspective, God gives us peace, patience and comfort in a way that transcends the circumstances of life.
Peter encourages his readers, in light of the brevity of life, to be stewards of the grace of God. To live each day with a doxological purpose. In speaking and in service, make it such for the glory of God.
Peter continues to prepare his readers for upcoming persecution and opposition. He encourages them to always be prepared to make a defense for the hope that is in them. Dr. Boa expounds on this notion of turning from fear to faith and sanctifying Christ as Lord in our hearts so that the shalom within us becomes evident to others.
Dr. Boa focuses on two verses (1 Peter 3:8-9) a little transitional section dealing with our relationship with the believing community as well as our relationship to those who oppress and oppose us. It is a lifestyle of love.
Dr. Boa continues his discussion of the practical application of the spheres of God ordained authority. Peter transitions from governing authorities to that of the work place. There is no dichotomy between the sacred and the secular. We are called to do our work as to the Lord rather than for men. As we look to Him as the Source and to Him for the outcome, we pursue a higher standard than we would otherwise.
Peter transitions from addressing the richness of our salvation in Christ to practical application and the pulls that wage war against our souls. Dr. Boa discusses this inner-outward conflict that we all encounter and encourages us to live in such a way that our words and our works and our lives and our lips coincide.
Few people have answered the question: ‘How much is enough?’ and so they are not content. If you are not content with what you have, you surely won’t be content with what you want, because that moving target will continue on. Dr. Boa offers a pathway to contentment which only comes through the living Word of God. This Word of God is not just a moral mirror, but has the power to transform.
Peter invites his readers to embrace God’s narrative not the world’s narrative; to embrace a biblical perspective on life and not what we often would construe for ourselves. This epistle gives a perspective of wisdom, faith, hope, and love and calls us to put our hope in the Living God and His unchanging character and promises.
Peter admonishes his readers to have an uplook and an outlook.. Our uplook determines our outlook and our outlook determines our behavior. As we look up, we are to apply what we see. We are called to become a people who manifest the new life in this present world.
Jesus calls us to a living hope; a hope that will not die. A hope that is so transformative that it will produce an inheritance. Dr. Boa expounds on the four qualities of the inheritance and the legacy that we share with Christ as co-heirs, as sons and daughters of the King.
